In our middle eastern culture, we welcome a new born by cooking "meghli" (like a pudding with nuts and cococnut on top), yummy very delicious (the recipe will follow with picture). It is like a feast where everyone is here mama, teta, auntie, 3ammto, sister... they all take rounds in stirring :). It is not only the making of, it is also about the show off, you need special containers, stylish ones to welcome the 3ayle, as7ab and l jiran... and the new born. I know you are eager for the recipe and picture i promise i will cook some next week as for the recipe.
1 cup ground rice
5 cups cold water
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon powdered anis
1/2 teaspoon powdered fennel
1/2 teaspoon carawya (buy from ethnic shop, spice kind)
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
How to make:
Mix the ground rice to a smooth paste with some of the cold water.
Add the sugar, anis, fennel, carawya and cinnamon.
Bring the remaining water to the boil.
Add the ground rice mixture gradually, stirring vigorously with a wood spoon.
Continue stirring until it comes to the boil again, then lower the heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until cooked approx 1 hour.
the mixture is cooked when it is thick enough to coat the spoon.
Cool it slightly, pour into individual bowls and refrigerate.
Serve chilled, decorated with coconut, almonds, pine nuts, pistachio
